The Lumbee Tribe is making progress in achieving federal recognition. In interest of making further connections, the Lumbee tribe announced they will be hosting Lumbee Days at the Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian in Washington, DC, from September 7 to September 9th, 2017. The event is an opportunity for the Lumbee people to narrate their own story.

The Lumbee Days will have many ways visitors can learn about the tribe. The Lumbee Days will begin with a reception with live entertainment from Charly Lowry, contemporary Lumbee artist. The museum will have an exhibit that will show the history of the Lumbee Tribe. There will also be cultural performances and Lumbee artisans will showcase their work. Three local chefs will be preparing Lumbee dishes. For those who cannot attend, there will be a livestream of the events on Friday. The Lumbee Days will serve as an opportunity for the Lumbee to showcase their culture with the country.
