Woolverton, Paul. "Senate bill would give Lumbees full recognition and millions of dollars." Fayetteville Observer [Fayetteville, NC] September 7, 2016.

Annotation:

While other tribes have opposed for decades, the Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina is again trying to persuade Congress to grant federal recognition, which would equate to millions of dollars in federal benefits.

While the committee did not vote on the bill, U.S. Reps. Robert Pittenger, Richard Hudson and G.K. Butterfield have all signed letters in support of the bill. The bill would lead to benefits for Robeson, Scotland, Hoke and Cumberland counties and would also allow for the possibility of gambling in casinos.
