Shiles, Bob. "Godwin high on recognition." The Red Springs Citizen [Red Springs, NC]. August 6, 2017.
The chairman of the Lumbee Tribe, Harvey Godwin Jr, says he will be disappointed if federal recognition does not occur in this calendar year. Recently, Godwin attended a White House event for small business owners, where he mingled with White House staff. “'The Lumbee Constitution states that the chairman represents the tribe before all other governments and tribunals, including the United States, the state of North Carolina, and all federal and state agencies,’ Godwin said” (para. 7). Godwin is in pursuit of endorsements from congressmen and the Trump administration. Godwin says full recognition would not only help the Lumbee, but also all of Robeson County.
