County balks at giving pipeline permit

Record Number:

Shiles, Bob. "County balks at giving pipeline permit." Red Springs Citizen [Red Springs, NC]. July 17, 2017.

Robeson County commissioners voted to not give a conditional-use permit for a monitoring station and a microwave cell tower in Pembroke. Rev. Mac Legerton and Robie Goins, members of Eco-Robeson, asked that the commissioners hold public meetings regarding the monitoring station and cell tower. "Legerton accused the utility companies of changing the route of the proposed pipeline so it goes away from the wealthier areas and instead passes through poverty areas and areas where people are not educated about the project” (para. 10). Goins says the towers would be an eyesore.
