Annotation:

Lumbee gymnast Ashton Locklear finished first on the uneven bars at the Friday night U.S. Olympic Trials. She earned a 15.750.

However, rival Madison Kocian tied Locklear with another 15.750, which could lead to Kocian making the team. Kocian is a more balanced gymnast and can compete in many events.

Locklear, who has broken her back twice, is limited in some of the other events that Kocian can participate in. Locklear’s coach Qi Han said he believes that she still has a shot and has room for improvement in the final day of trials.

Locklear and Kocian have competed against each other eight times in the span of their rivalry, and Locklear has won seven of those matchups. Still, many believe Kocian will ultimately be chosen.

The final result will be shared on the night of July 10, 2016.
