Malinda Maynor, 32-year-old daughter of Waltz and Louise Maynor, has been hired for one of two new tenure-track positions at Harvard for history professors specializing in Native American studies. Her parents grew up in Pembroke, North Carolina and emphasized to her, in her upbringing, the importance of family, community, Lumbee heritage, and education. This article discusses Maynor's degrees, her dissertation on the history of Robeson County Indians, her documentary films on Native Americans, her recent marriage to Willie French Lowery, and her recent involvement with the Carolina Arts Network, which is working to revive Strike at the Wind!
