Devane, Steve. “Professor: Pipeline to negatively affect economy via climate change." The Fayetteville Observer [Fayetteville, NC] August 17, 2017.

Annotation:

Ryan E Emanuel, associate professor at NC State, said at a “listening session” that the proposed Atlantic Coast pipeline will affect climate change and cost NC- and therefore Robeson County- money. Emanuel is a member of the Lumbee Tribe, and he said the pipeline could affect the Lumbee heritage, including burial grounds. Jorden Revels, a student Lumbee, says, “‘Land is a part of our identity... It is a large part of who we are as a people’” (para. 10).

State officials met with the tribal governments of North Carolina last week, and the tribal leaders expressed concern over the pipeline. The officials will consider the listening sessions in their decision on the pipeline.
