Comments from a former chief of BIA’s Branch of Acknowledgement Research, prompted by entry 695. Shepard feels Clinton will be told that the BIA’s process exists to handle requests such as the Lumbees’, and that 133 groups totalling 80,000 people have submitted petitions. With the BIA’s present staff and rate of review, it could be 2059 before the 133 petitions are reviewed.
