Welcome to the scholarly resources web page of the Black Mountain College Semester (BMCS) project. Archivists at Appalachian State University have developed a document resources website, Black Mountain College: Innovation in Art, Education, and Lifestyle, that connects the Black Mountain College-related holdings at Appalachian with several other prominent collections. These include significant resources from W.L. Eury Special Collection, a repository of Appalachian documents including the John Andrew Rice papers and F. Whitney Jones papers, including finding aids on art at Black Mountain College. Additional resources can be found on the external website of the Black Mountain College Project.
The BMCS featured several speakers visiting three locations throughout 2018: the Blowing Rock Art and History Museum, the Swannanoa Valley Museum, and the Turchin Center for the Visual Arts. Topics ranged from local Black Mountain history to the artistic legacies of its greatest teachers and students. Two of the speakers' talks held on the campus of Appalachian State University have been made accessible below for public viewing thanks to students and faculty at APPTV. Other digitized archival holdings can be found at the bottom of the landing page for each of the eras of the BMC timeline created for the Black Mountain College Semester.
