Annotation:

The N.C. Senate passed legislation 49-0 on June 27, 2016, stating that local public school systems can lease new school buildings instead of purchasing them.

This will directly impact Robeson County because they can obtain new schools quicker. At the end of a long-term lease, the school system would own the schools.

As of the article, the plan was to build 14 new schools and expand five others, while 30 would be closed.

State Sen. Wesley Meredith said he has been trying to pass the bill for years. Now the bill moves to the House for consideration.
