SACS lifts probation off RCC

Witten, Scott. “SACS lifts probation off RCC.” Robesonian 13 December 2001.

Annotation:

On December 11, the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools voted to remove Robeson Community College (RCC) from probation and reaccredit the school for ten years. RCC was placed on probation a year ago, mainly because SACS felt the Board of Trustees was making decisions that should have been handled by the college president. SACS gave RCC a list of fourteen changes that needed to be implemented by September, 2001. SACS was satisfied with the school's progress when a visitation team reviewed the school in September. Another, less rigorous review will be done in five years. The probation caused RCC to lose $470,000 in grant money for a pilot training program for dental hygienists and assistants. Loss of accreditation, however, would have lost the school all its federal and state funding (including scholarships); the school probably would have closed.
