Annotation:
Al Locklear was stripped of the title of Lumbee Tribal Council vice chairman. Council Speaker says Locklear also submitted a letter of resignation, but Locklear denies this when contacted by a reporter. The new sanctions are due to a “'combination of events,'” Council Speaker Oxendine said (para. 7). These events include a battery conviction and a driving while impaired charge. Locklear serves in many leadership positions in Lumberton.
