The Public Schools of Robeson County, which has seen 1,200 of 24,000 students drop out in the first ten days of a school year, is developing a MotorSports Academy as one of four career academies to help retrain students as well as prepare them for employment. When implemented, the MotorSports Academy will teach bodywork and fabrication, paint, and auto mechanics, starting in seventh and eighth grade. When program coordinator Mack Sarvis went to Robeson County high schools with a Bush race car and a video about the academy, 1,000 students expressed interest. Robeson County will be the nation's first school system to implement a motorsports program.
