Dolasinski, Amanda. "Disaster: Robeson County worst off in state; 'I felt like I wanted to die... We got what we could, the rest is underwater.'" Fayetteville Observer [Fayetteville, NC] October 13, 2016.
After the flooding in Robeson County, Governor Pat McCrory said that Robeson was the state’s greatest challenge at the moment. He spent the morning on site in Robeson County talking to the residents. Many people were without power or water. Schools in the area were closed, and many of their facilities have provided shelters to the citizens. In total, over 12,000 Lumberton residents lost electric service during Hurricane Matthew. There were six total shelters in the city. The North Carolina National Guard was also on hand to help with food distribution. Soldiers were passing out water and food rations to people and also delivering them to the shelters. At the time of the article, there was still large amounts of flooding throughout Robeson County. People interviewed said that the town had prepared for the hurricane, but no one expected the high level of flooding.
