Dr. Kyle R. Carter has been named the new chancellor of the University of North Carolina at Pembroke. He will assume his new duties on July 1, 2010. Dr. Carter was Provost and senior vice chancellor of Western Carolina University. He succeeds Charles R. Jenkins, who served as interim chancellor since June 2009.
Carter graduated from Mercer University in 1970 with a degree in Psychology. He then earned both Masters and Doctorate degrees from the University of Georgia in Educational Psychology. Carter held a 22-year tenure as a professor of psychology at the University of Northern Colorado. He left this position in 1998 to become provost at the University of Central Missouri, where he served until he joined Western Carolina University in 2004.
