Annotation:
This undated, two-page pencil note mentions a “statement” attributed to Swanton and notes that Mooney “did not hold the view that the Croatan were Siouan.”. The writer adds, “... I know of no data to make it probable that these mixed bloods should be classed as Siouan. The name of their chief is clearly Algonquian and the toponymic designations are likewise from this stock.”
