Annotation:
Lumbee use of certain words, meanings, and pronunciations is part of their ethnic identity. Analyzes writing samples, LRDA oral history tapes, and conversations for use of the words “token,” “budges,” and “juvimber.” Also discusses the Tidewater diphthong, a “linguistic marker” which identifies community of origin.
