Glenn Maynor, the former Sheriff of Robeson County who pleaded guilty to federal perjury and conspiracy charges, is serving the last two months of his prison sentence at home, under house arrest. He was released on March 23, 2010 from a federal prison in New Jersey where he had been serving his sentence.
"It's not uncommon for an inmate to spend the last portion of a sentence in this sort of program," said U.S. Bureau of Prisons spokesman Ed Ross. "The point of it is to get a person ready to be fully released into the community."
Maynor was the first Lumbee elected as Sheriff of Robeson County and was sworn in with the hope that he could help the county and the Lumbee Community.
When asked about his change in location, Maynor indicated the electronic monitoring device strapped on his ankle and responded, "I can't say anything."
Maynor was found guilty during Operation Tarnished Badge, a six-year investigation where 23 people, most in law enforcement, pleaded guilty to such crimes as kidnapping, money laundering, racketeering, theft of federal money and satellite piracy.
