“Lumbee Benefits Revisited.” Fayetteville observer January 19, 2007.
U. S. Senator Elizabeth Dole (R-NC) introduced a bill entitled Lumbee Recognition Act on Thursday, January 18.
The bill that Dole introduced in the 109th Congress was discussed in a hearing in the Senate Committee on Indian Affairs and received a favorable vote from that committee. It was never brought up for a vote in the full Senate, however.
As of January 24, the bill had three cosponsors: Senator Richard Burr (NC), Senator Daniel K. Inouye (HI), and Senator Barbara A. Mikulski (MD). The bill was referred to the Committee on Indian Affairs.
