In its March 24 meeting, the Tribal Council:
- Established an economic development committee to help the tribe pursue venture and grant projects; Daucey Brewington (District 18) is chairperson.
- Formed an ethics committee to write guidelines to govern the conduct of council members, oversee advisory committee members, and prevent conflict of interest. Rosa Winfree (District 16) is chairperson.
- Discussed the tribal constitution. This committee met on March 16 and March 19. They agreed that the previous work on drafting a constitution will be used as a basis for the current work. Six public hearings regarding the constitution have been scheduled, to begin on March 26.
- Heard public comments from (a) Garth Locklear, urging that the tribal constitution reflect the need for public safety of tribal members and punishment of tribal members who commit felonies; (b) Ruth Locklear, on how to distinguish tribal territory; and (c) Barbara Lowry, on the tribe's needs regarding health care, energy assistance, and housing.
