Shiles, Bob. "Getting schooled on art." St. Pauls Review. June 26, 2016
The fourth annual Julian T. Pierce Memorial Art Dinner and Auction was held June 24, 2016, also functioning as the kickoff event to the 48th annual Lumbee Homecoming.
Pierce was a candidate for a Robeson County Superior Court seat but was murdered in March of 1988. The event is held at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke and raises money to provide scholarships for students needing financial assistance to attend UNC-P, Robeson Community College or North Carolina Central University.
There were 23 total pieces up for bid at this year’s auction, including pieces by Gene Locklear, who personally led some of the bidding.
Over the past three years, the event has raised $85,000. The numbers for this year’s event were not released in the article.
