Lagrone, Juanita. "Teaching what she sews: quilter passes on knowledge of craft." Red Springs Citizen [Red Springs, NC] August 14, 2016.
Victoria Henderson, whose profession is a school teacher, has been quilting for years and hopes to inspire young people to pick up the craft.
Henderson offers a three-hour quilting workshop for beginners that she holds twice a year at the Museum of Southeast American Indians at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke. Participants must bring their own sewing machine, thread and cutting tools, and Henderson notes that it is a bit of an investment to get started.
Participants leave, for the most part, with a finished product. Henderson continues to learn new tricks of the trade to broaden her skillset. She has taken workshops on beading and pine-cone patchwork that she hopes to include in her workshops.
