“Educational teams complete tough year. The state assistance teams went into troubled schools and came out with victories in many during the academic year.” Greensboro News and Record (North Carolina) 18 June 1998:B7.
Annotation:
Under North Carolina's ABCs of Public Education reform plan, the Department of Public Instruction monitored students’s test results at each school in the state. Where students performed well, teachers got bonuses. At the fifteen worst-performing schools, principals were suspended and state assistance teams brought in to manage the schools for a year. Rex Rennent Elementary School was one of the fifteen. Although relations between the the team members and school's staff were tense, student test scores improved.
