Purnell Swett has replaced Jimmy Goins as Lumbee Tribal Chairman.  About 500 to 600 people attended the ceremony where Swett was sworn in, which took place at the Southeastern North Carolina Agricultural Center in Lumberton, North Carolina.

Swett is focusing on elder care, education, housing and federal recognition during his time in office. He also wants to help solve the problem of tribal members fighting among themselves, saying, "We have to stand as one in order to move forward as a tribe."
