Annotation:
Data was collected in Robeson County in the summer of 1972. The sample included 526 couples, and 169 women not currently married, aged 18-49. Shoieb determined that Black and Indian women begin childbearing at a younger age and then have subsequent births at a faster pace than White women. As a result, Black and Indian women have more children and higher fertility than White women. Race and educational attainment also influence initial and subsequent childbearing.
