Citation:
“Lumbee Park Is Lowry’s Brain Child.” Scottish Chief 21 July 1955.
Annotation:
James Norman Lowery is chief executive of the Lumbee Park at Red Banks. He hopes his play, “On the Banks of the Lumbee,” will be performed there by the Carolina Playmakers in its first year of production. He aspires for the play to eventually be performed by an all-Indian cast. He emphasizes that “Lumbee Park” “has no connection with the name ‘Lumbee’ as given by the Legislature in 1953” and that he is only chief executive of the park, not chief of the tribe.
