Lumbee tribal members pledged to do whatever is necessary to bring back respect and integrity to their tribal government. This includes recalling the tribal chairman. A total of 70 tribal members attended a meeting to voice their opinions on the current tribal government. The inability of the administration to work together was a major concern.

The use of money and banning of tribal members from tribal property were also points brought up by tribal members. Many blamed Chairman Paul Brooks for the majority of the problems. Brooks, along with thirteen of the tribal council members, were absent from the meeting, which also drew concern.

Solutions were discussed by those present, and the process for recalling a chairman was detailed by Eric Locklear. Petitions are also circulating in all of the tribe’s 14 districts to recall Brooks, but only those who voted in the 2012 election will be allowed to participate in the recall.

Many felt like the meeting was the start of working in a new direction and setting new precedent in holding the tribal government responsible for its actions.
